19/10/20 Sabre’s A 0 :10 0
26/10/20 Bonalba A 4 : 6 2

2nd November home to El Cid Swords.

A bright, warm and sunny day set us up for a good days bowling.

Our Challengers playing on Rink6 had a dream start picking up multiple shots winning the first 7 ends, leading 16:0. A dropped shot on the 8th was immediately recouped with a 4 then 5 on the next two ends so after 10 ends the team were in complete control. A valiant fight back by the Swords could not make up the difference and a convincing win of 30:9 by Bob, Joyce and Denise provided 2 points and an excellent shot difference.

Rink 1 never an easy rink for home teams, proved a problem for our team of Clive.Bert and Patty. Level after 6 ends at 5 all the Swords then found a winning streak taking the next 6 ends leading by 10 shots. A strong fight back and some good bowling our team won the next 3 ends bringing the score to 14:15 with everything to play for. However we could just not get the rub of the green, losing the final 3 ends resulting in a 14:22 loss.

Rink 2 our team of Terry, Maureen and Malcolm had a nip and tuck game with 6:6 score after 8ends. Tigers seemed to get into their winning stride and after 14 ends had a 17:9 lead. Some excellent opposition bowling pulled back the scores winning the next 3 ends. Going into the last end 17:14 ahead  the match went down to the wire with the two skips to play Tigers were holding with one bowl in the head but a beautiful bowl by the opposition moved the shot wood and Tigers went from 1 up to 2 down. Thankfully for us the final opposition bowl went wide and we won by one shot 17:16.

Rink 4 a late change of Skip due to Ernie being unwell saw our team struggle on the short jack lengths put up by the Swords on the first 3 ends. However holding the shots to just 1 per end. Winning on the 4th and some good all round play the team pulled back and went ahead 9:4  after 9 ends. A poor shot turned a holding 6 opportunity into a lost 1 on the 10th. However Brian,Mike and Margaret did not let that worry them too much and went on to play some solid bowls, limiting losses to 1’s. Swords had a nightmare 15th end which closed the game down dropping a 6 followed by a 4 on the next end. Overall 23:10 score did not really give a true reflection of the closeness of the game.

Rink 8 Bob, Dave and Shelia started strongly and kept the pressure on the opposition, never letting them get settled and were a comfortable 17:4 up at the half way stage. Despite winning 6 of the second half ends Swords were unable to make up the shortfall, two 5’s on the 13th and 14th ends secured a solid win for the Tigers 29:11

so overall a very good day at the office, winning on 3 and the shot difference gave us a worthy 8:2 win.

26th October away to Bonalba
The team arrived at Bonalba a green always susceptible to a little breeze to be met with strong blustery winds making the game even more challenging than normal.

Our Challenger team had a dream start picking up 9 of the first 10 ends going into the second half a solid 15:03 ahead. A strong fight back back by the home team winning on the next 5 ends was halted after some positive playing by our team of Bob,Joyce and Denise sealed a good win and 2points with a 19:12 win.

Rink4 Ernie,Mike and Margaret had a great start getting the green quickly and after 8 ends were ahead 13:01 However a stronger performance from the home team in the second half saw them pull back and with 3 ends to play the score was 16:12. Digging deep and holding shot on each of the remaining ends the team won a well deserved 2 points with a 19:12 win.

Rink6 Bob,Dave and Shelia just could not hold onto the shot and at the mid way point were trailing 5:14. Despite winning 5 of the 9 last ends it was just not enough to pull back the shots and they ended 11:19

Rink7 Terry,Brian and Maureen managed to get the green better than the home side and were comfortably ahead 13:3 after 10 ends. Then disaster struck with a drop in the wind the home team picked up a 7 bringing them back into the game.It then became a game of nick and tuck with alternating wins, but we managed to hold on to a 17:16 win and another 2 points.

Rink8 Clive,Bert and Malcolm were picking up ends 7 in all but could only score a single on each. After 7 ends we were trailing only 3:6 The opposition then seem to find the green and started making home advantage count. Pushing home their advantage our team were unfortunately always chasing the shots. Resulting in a 07:23 loss.

19th October away toEl Cid Sabre’s

The team travelled to inform El Cid Sabre’s on a beautiful sunny morning unfortunately that was the highlight of the day.

The Challengers on rink 6 took a while to find the green and the home team took advantage leading 9:2 after 7 ends. However a fighting recovery by Bob, Peter and Joyce took the game to 11:13 after 14 ends, unfortunately despite a brave attempt the  elusive 2 points went to Sabre’s with a score of 16:15.

Rink 5 our team of Ernie, Mike & Margret had a frustrating game winning 9 of the 18 ends but only managing to capitalise on them scoring 12 points overall. The rub of the green certainly going in favour of the home side.

Rink 4 Clive, Bert & Patty were like us all a little slow out the blocks and were trailing 6:13 at the half way point. Playing what must be the El Cid dream team of Yvonne Briden, Hazel Brown and Paul Truncheon. A stronger second half had our team pulling back but running out of ends resulting in the 17::24 score.

Rink 3 Bob, Dave & Shelia had a  good start with a very tight game leading 4:3 after 6 ends, down 11:12 after 12 ends with everything to play for. Unfortunately it was not happen for us with El Cid taking 5 of the next 6 ends leaving us licking our wounds 12:18

Rink 2 Terry, Brian & Maureen just could not hold on to the shot wood and at the half way point were 3:15 down, thanks in most to dropping a 5 then a  4 due to the Jack being moved unluckily by our own team.

The second half faired no better and overall despite some fair bowling from our side what good fortune was about today certainly went to our opponents along with some excellent bowling.

12th October v. BBC Jaguars.

Following a winning team practice session prior to the season starting The team were in a confident mood.

Rink 8 Bob,Dave & Shelia were held by some strong opposition bowling and after 9 ends the score was 8:7 close with everything to play for. A strong second half winning 6 of the ends saw the team pick up the first points of the year winning 15:10

Rink 6  Challengers or Bob, Peter and Joyce got off to a steady start winning 5 of the first 9 ends with a score of 13:8. However a strong rally by the Jaguars winning the next 6 ends put the team under some pressure and with just 2 ends to play we were trailing 14:16. Heels dug in and some positive bowling gave us the last 2 ends with a 3 and 5 resulting in a 22:16 win and well deserved 2 points.

Rink 4 Ernie, Mike & Margaret had a nightmare start dropping a 7 on the first end. However they rallied and came back strongly at at mid way were just  8:11 down. A tightly played game went to the wire with our team just losing out 17:18, but for that start who can say.

Rink 2 Clive,Bert & Patty had a frustrating game against an in form Jack and his team. Nothing in it at the mid way point however the second half went all Jaguars way ending 11:19. The final end being the decider for the extra 2 points for shot difference. Jaguars need 2 points to level and with just 3 bowls to play Tigers were holding shot, A beautiful bowl from Jack took out the shot giving Jaguars 2 shots with a measure for a third. With the last bowl of the game Clive drew in and took shot a great end to a good day.

Rink 1 Terry,Brian & Maureen had a steady start winning 7 of the first 9 ends albeit by singles giving a 7:3 score. The second half went a little better for Tigers and resulting 15:8 score helped out the shot difference.
