Calpe Bowls Club Mixed Triples Competition
On Sunday 10th October, Calpe Bowls Club (founded 1985) christened their new greens at Calpe
Tennis complex with a closely fought Open Mixed Triples Competition.
20 teams from throughout the Costa Blanca played out to a thrillingly tense finish. The Benitachell threesome of Jeff Richards, Sheila Fairbairn and Linda Richards shared 37 points with Javea’s John and Pat Pittaway and Tony Walker, but claimed the trophy once again with a better shot difference (of +19 to + 13).
Taylor Trophy Climax
Another fabulous Taylor Trophy competition came to a conclusion with a dramatic downturn in fortune for Cumbyer. From day one or should I say evening one, as this competition is played under the floodlights at Javea Green, Cumbyer and Guys and Dolls had occupied the top two places in the league. The final evening saw Guys and Dolls win both matches to secure the title but Cumbyer needed to win their last match to retain second spot, but it was not to be as Whatever defeated them 10-4 to give Whatever third place with Los Gallos taking the runners up position. It was exciting to see the top places being decided on the last night, but even those teams not battling it out for the top spots did not go away empty handed as bottles of wine were handed out to all players.
At the presentation our Club Captain, Keith Hamilton, thanked Matt and Brian Taylor for sponsoring the Taylor Trophy, which is held in memory of Elaine and also thanked players from Bonalba, Benitachell and El Cid for supporting our club and our new management team of Brian, Chad and Carol for their hard work.
Jeff Richards on behalf of the visiting teams, then congratulated our Competition Secretary, Dee Hamilton, on her organisation of another enjoyable competition at Javea Green BC.

IBERIAN OPEN JAVEA GREEN BOWLS CLUB
The Aussie Pairs match was deservedly won by Maria Morawiec and Jeff Richards who were in control for most of the match. John Pittaway and Alan Phillips did pick up 7 shots in two ends to briefly lead, but then got stuck on 13 and finally lost 13- 17.
Jeff Richards, from Benitachell BC, also had success in the Gents Singles when he came up against Chris Salter the in form Javea Green player. Jeff took command early on and led 8-3 but Chris fought back to briefly lead 9-8 before Jeff was able to retake control and apply the pressure. The final score was 21-11 to Jeff who won the Iberian Gents Singles
